A Martial Arts Saturday

Well, today everyone canceled and I had to stay home, since going out on my own felt like a complete nonsense. So, I went downstairs to check my DVD collection and decided to have a fun Saturday watching 3 of my favorite martial arts films: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This one is a true gem! I never get tired of watching it and the fight sequences are just amazing, not even Matrix can approach the magic this movie has. There are two sequences which are freaking unbelievable; the first one is the chase over Pekin's rooftops, until Jen and Shu Lien finally start fighting and there is this flying and walking on walls and an awesome choreography, but if you watch this scene, listen to the soundtrack... it leaves you breathless. The final scene, where Jen asks Lo to ask for a wish and then she jumps... watch it and give me your opinion. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

After this film, I went for another Zhang Ziyi film (okay, she's in the three of them): House of the Flying Daggers; if you don't see the beauty of Mei dancing at the beginning of the film you have to be blind, it's just amazing. I know that the scene where she gets the sword with the longs sleeve seems kind of fake, but still, it is eye candy. The fighting sequences are not impressive but the plot is good, at the end you know something bad is going to happen... but I won't ruin the movie if you haven't seen it yet. And at last one that caught my eye because the colors sometimes are just beautiful: Hero. There are quite amazing fight scenes and the story is great, quite deep; however my favorite scenes are the one with Flying Snow and Moon fighting in the forest dressed in red and surrounded by the trees full of yellow leafs floating all around, just breathtaking, then we have the scene Broken Sword and Nameless fighting over the water, it's just beautiful. Hero

I will rent Warriors of Heaven and Earth, which is from the same genre (Wuxia) and might come to the level of these films. I'll post the scenes if they're available in youtube.com so you can enjoy them!
